Associated General Contractors Houston Chapter Recognizes Griesenbeck as its 2022 Small Specialty Contractor of the Year

HOUSTON, TEXAS, OCTOBER 25, 2022— At their Mid-Year Safety Meeting at The Moran-City Center on August 3rd, 2022, the Houston Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (“AGC Houston”) recognized Griesenbeck Architectural Products, Inc. (“Griesenbeck”) as the Safety Excellence Small Specialty Subcontractor of the Year. Chuck Porter, Project Executive for Griesenbeck, accepted the award from Kyle Holland, AGC Houston Chapter President, and John Marshall AGC Houston Chairman of the Board and Vice President at Satterfield & Pontikes Construction. Special guest Wesley Hunt, retired U.S. Army Captain and Republican Nominee for Texas' 38th Congressional District, attended the event as the guest of honor. The AGC Houston Safety Excellence Awards were designed to recognize construction companies demonstrating leadership in safety management through promoting safe work practices, superior safety cultures, and overall safe performance. Nominees must provide three years of safety metrics based on OSHA documentation and submit a written statement detailing their safety program. With over 200 specialty subcontractors in the AGC Houston membership, Griesenbeck won the prestigious Small Specialty Subcontractor of the Year Award. Small specialty contractors are those who have less than 200,000 man hours worked in the past calendar year and who show commitment to continuous improvement in their safety programs. They are leaders in the commercial construction industry. In 2022 alone, Griesenbeck used lessons learned in a five-week leadership course to revamp company fundamentals, to adjust training, to appoint an Assistant Safety Manager, and to enhance its field inspection processes. With these changes, employees are better empowered to recognize, communicate, and address safety concerns. Safety is a central topic of weekly toolbox talks and is reiterated as part of company-wide training at quarterly stand downs. Griesenbeck also created new visual aids and signage within the office to reiterate these changes and why they are important. The process improvements listed above are designed to help address expectations and prevent safety incidents. In addition, Griesenbeck has started sending both field and office employees to safety-focused events and to participate in safety committees in industry groups. The intent is to encourage continuous learning and demonstrate the understanding that it is crucial to maintaining and improving the internal safety program. AGC Houston supports the commercial construction industry across 24 counties throughout the Greater Houston region and has done so since 1923. The chapter is comprised of local and national companies – both large and small, union and merit shop, general and specialty contractors, as well as suppliers, manufacturers, and industry support firms.
