Objective
Incorporate natural daylighting into the gymnasium for a new, state-of-the-art public charter secondary school in Greater Houston as an investment in both the overall student experience, wellbeing, and athletic performance.
Background
Harmony Public Schools is an A-rated, nationally-recognized, and award-winning network of 64 public and tuition free schools across Texas focusing on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) curricula. This project is the sixth campus for the Harmony Public School system in Fort Bend County, and it was important to the educators and the design team to have the space match its name – innovation was top of mind.
Solution
To bring diffused light and Tubular Daylighting Devices (“TDDs”) into the gym space, Griesenbeck supplied and installed 24 Solatube SkyVault units. These daylights improve the health and engagement level of Harmony students and reduce overall electricity energy usage by the school which serves 800 8th-12th graders.
Result
This new high school has an energy-efficient gymnasium that encourages physical activity and inspires academic achievement from students grounded in a project-based learning, professional development, and STEM culture.
