Objective
To provide The Pit Room - a Houston BBQ institution and a MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand Awardee - a stunning feature for its Memorial City-based second restaurant.
Background
The original location in Montrose exploded in popularity shortly after opening in 2016. The owners needed a large second space and wanted to enclose some of the outdoor area using glass. Choosing glass would have limited the overall span of the skylight and would have required additional support structures to support the weight of the material.
Solution
Kalwall skylights are lighter in weight, provide thermal performance to hold the Houston heat at bay, and has the advantage of better light distribution and aesthetics. To beautify and to keep “The Patio” space comfortable, Griesenbeck installed almost 700 SF of Kalwall skylights.
Result
The Patio has museum-quality daylighting and the thermal protection as a result - the Kalwall skylights ensure the ambiance outside is as enjoyable as the food coming from the inside.
